A POET AT HEART

I’ve always been a writer, even though I haven’t always called myself one.

I write to make sense of things. I like to write about identity, family, ambition, loss, and sometimes about the American Dream. Just as often I write about the smaller things that catch me off guard.

I studied English Literature at UC Berkeley. I have spent most of my life being fascinated by words and working with them in one way or another. Here at A Poet at Heart I write just for me.

You will find essays. Poetry. Fiction. Observations. Experiments. Some writing will be polished and some will be ugly in spirit too.

My first poetry collection American Mexican is deeply personal. It explores culture, family, identity and the American Dream through my own experience as an Mexican-American.
